What We Do

Comprehensive strategic support for high risk environments. We deliver clarity where there is complexity.

High-Risk Practice & Decision-Making

High-Risk Practice & Decision-Making

We support organisations working with complex families and individuals where there is a high potential for harm, including specialist work with fathers who may pose risks to children.

  • Strengthening professional judgement in high-risk cases
  • Enhancing defensible decision-making
  • Building workforce confidence in complex practice

Outcome

We help reduce the risk of serious harm and provide greater assurance for leaders, enabling safer and more resilient services.

Leadership & Organisational Performance

We empower leaders and practitioners to excel in high-pressure, high-risk environments whether it's managing teams, departments, or entire organisations. Drawing on leading research into decision-making and error reduction in complex systems, we help organisations:

  • Develop leadership skills for challenging statutory and operational contexts
  • Strengthen professional judgement and defensible decision-making
  • Build confident, resilient teams equipped to manage complexity and risk
  • Align performance, accountability, and organisational culture

Our approach recognises the unique pressures faced by those in demanding roles, including the impact on staff wellbeing, public trust, and organisational outcomes. By supporting leadership development across all levels, we help reduce errors, improve staff engagement, and deliver safer, more effective services.

Outcome

Clearer leadership, improved team and organisational performance, reduced risk of serious harm, and greater assurance for both staff and the communities you serve.

Leadership & Organisational Performance
Complex Programme & System Delivery

Complex Programme & System Delivery

We help public sector organisations design and deliver complex, multi-agency programmes where risk and accountability are high, and the outcomes matter for communities.

  • Programme and governance design that fosters transparency, learning, and continuous improvement
  • Stakeholder and partnership management to enable effective collaboration across agencies and sectors
  • Delivery oversight and assurance, ensuring programmes remain focused on outcomes and adapt to changing demands

By promoting reflective practice, robust accountability, and cost-effective resource sharing, we help organisations build public trust, support staff wellbeing, and deliver joined-up solutions for people in challenging roles. Our approach strengthens multi-stakeholder working and ensures programmes deliver measurable results, not just plans.

Outcome

Programmes that deliver real impact, improved safety, and greater confidence for leaders, practitioners, and the communities you serve.

Client Testimonials

“5D Horizons has provided invaluable specialist input across our father-engagement and safeguarding programmes. Dr Tara Dickens’ advisory role within the RCT of ISAFE across 7 English local authorities, a systems change intervention designed to improve how children’s services identify, assess, and work with fathers, has been particularly significant.

ISAFE combines practitioner training with organisational development to ensure fathers are visible in assessments, risk is understood through a whole family lens, and engagement with men is both purposeful and safe. Tara’s contribution strengthened our understanding of how to work more effectively with fathers in complex family systems and supported practitioners to recognise the psychological factors that can shape men’s behaviour under stress, particularly where there is a risk of harm to children.

Her evidence-based learning materials have helped social workers think more clearly about the internal world of high-risk fathers, improving professional curiosity and supporting more confident, defensible decision-making. The clarity and accessibility of her guidance have been consistently valued by teams navigating complex safeguarding scenarios.

Within the Fathers for Change programme, an evidence-based intervention for fathers with young children who have perpetrated domestic abuse, 5D Horizons has developed and delivered learning materials that support clinicians to build rapport and use empathy safely and purposefully.

Fathers for Change integrates cognitive-behavioural work, attachment theory, and family-systems approaches to help fathers regulate emotion, strengthen co-parenting, and reduce harmful behaviours. The training provided has been grounded, realistic, and attuned to the pressures of frontline clinical work.

We have retained Tara as an advisor throughout delivery because her input strengthens formulation discussions, supports safe engagement, and helps practitioners maintain both curiosity and professional boundaries.

Across both projects, 5D Horizons has provided psychological expertise, operational understanding, and ethical clarity. It brings a calm, evidence-led perspective that is particularly valuable in environments where decisions must balance engagement, risk assessment, and child safety.

We would confidently recommend 5D Horizons to any public-sector organisation seeking to enhance the quality of its decision-making and its work with fathers in safeguarding and complex casework.”
